Super Rapid Self-Contained Biological Indicator for Steam Sterilization

The Terragene® Bionova® BT222 is a self-contained biological indicator designed to monitor steam sterilization processes. It contains Geobacillus stearothermophilus (ATCC® 7953) spores at a population of 10⁶ per vial and provides a rapid fluorescence readout in just 1 hour.

How It Works

After the sterilization cycle, activate the biological indicator by crushing the internal ampoule and place it in a compatible Terragene® Bionova® Auto-Reader Incubator. Incubate for up to 1 hour at 60 ± 2 °C.

A positive fluorescence result indicates sterilization failure, while no fluorescence after 1 hour indicates a negative result. A non-sterilized indicator from the same batch should be used as a positive control to verify proper incubation conditions and indicator performance.

For visual confirmation, an unsuccessful sterilization process may cause the culture medium to change from purple to greenish and then yellow during incubation. If sterilization is successful, the medium remains purple.
